2020 has been a difficult year for most of us. Even the big corporations have felt the challenge of maintaining their businesses with the global pandemic. A lot of countries have been struggling to keep economic stability despite the situation. In every country, the sector which has felt it the most are the less fortunate. For this Christmas Season, GIJC gives back to the community by partnering with Leonel Waste Management and DGY Academy.
GIJC gives back by providing aid to the garbage collectors and their families in Manila, Philippines. This drive would not have been possible without the help of our partners. Each pack given to each family contains five (5) kilos of rice, five (5) cans of sardines, mixed vegetables, and face masks. Our aim was to raise funds worth Five Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 500,000.00), and to organize a seminar to teach our garbage collectors new skills. Through this drive and with our partners, we have happily helped one thousand four hundred forty (1,440) families.
Helping our front-liners
Garbage collectors are people who work for our community daily who are most often overlooked. They are also one of the most at risk during this time, thus considered one of our front-liners as well.
We would like to thank each and every one of the people that has made this event possible. Even in the midst of this global crisis, we still believe in ending the year by giving back to the community that helps us every day, and fulfilling our corporate social responsibility.
